Board’s size might change

The University Council Faculty Assembly will discuss today at its regular meeting the possible reduction of the Athletic Board’s size.

Judy Bischoff, executive secretary of the UC, said the Faculty Assembly’s Committee “B” will recommend the board be cut in size from 34 to 20 members.

“The proposal for a size change in the Athletic Board has been in committee for a couple of years,” Bischoff said.

She said a study was conducted last year which revealed the size of the average university athletic board to be about 12 to 15 members.

Bischoff said a smaller board size could make the organization “more proactive.”

The Faculty Assembly also will discuss NIU’s smoking policy and The Northern Star’s possible status as a university-related organization.

The meeting will be at 3 p.m. in Room 505 of the Holmes Student Center.
