Star irresponsible

I recently read in the Dec. 24, 1987 Chicago Tribune concerning the interesting article that was written in the Nov. 30, 1987 Northern Star about John Culbertson. Apparently, the Star has reached a new low in investigative reporting.

To publish an article about an alleged incident that happened over three years ago serves one purpose: to embarrass John Culbertson and the NIU basketball program. Certainly, no threat to freedom of the press would have occurred if this article was not published.

I think an appropriate title for the paper’s next expose is: THE NORTHERN STAR WANTED FOR TERRORISM. The article could develop the newspaper’s propensity for publishing articles that are damaging to Northern Illinois University. A large cartoon should be included next to the article showing a reporter talking to an unidentified source. The caption to the cartoon will read: RUMORS ARE ALWAYS ACCEPTED. THE FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTS OUR RIGHT TO BE IRRESPONSIBLE.
