Lost credibility
February 5, 1988
With the dismissal of the charge against John Culbertson, the Star’s attempt at “New Journalism” has ended in dismal failure. As the story broke and in the subsequent articles, it became apparent these articles were biased and lacked key elements of the story. How could the fact the Statute of Limitations had expired and the prosecutor needed to prove that Culbertson fled to avoid prosecution be omitted from the articles? This story destroyed the Star’s credibility as a factual news source. What’s next, “UFO kidnaps Rosborough”?
