Parking garages

As a commuting student I understand why the parking stickers are referred to as “hunting permits.” Driving around the lots in circles, hoping someone will leave and praying you beat the next guy to the space is an everyday occurrence.

Making more of the lots staff and faculty parking and pushing the students further away is outrageous. Student lots are becoming few and far between, and it seems to be more and more convenient for non-students to park.

I was informed that when the lot on the corner of Lucinda and Normal was proposed, NIU was considering a parking garage. But because they did not want more tall buildings wrecking the look of the university, the garage never came into existence.

It seems that more land and homes are being demolished for parking, a parking garage once again should be considered. One tall garage would be better than “paving the entire university,” as one student wrote last semester. This seems a logical and practical alternative.
