DeKalb Police are investigating the reported sexual assault of a 21-year-old NIU student.

The alleged assault occured during a party at the victim’s residence on Jan. 17. A suspect has been identified by police as a non-resident guest at the party.

Jon Dalton, vice president for student affairs, said he would look into the incident because the victim involved is an NIU student, but he was unable to comment on the incident Thursday.

The incident is under investigation by DeKalb Police.

There is no indication the incident is connected to any other assaults that have occured in DeKalb, police report.

The last reported assault occured Nov. 23, but the case was closed after determining facts in the case did not warrant a criminal arrest.

Since Oct. 1, three assaults have been reported in DeKalb and two other sexual assaults were reported as having taken place in NIU residence halls. University Police and DeKalb Police are investigating the incidents.
