Soccer Honors
January 19, 1988
NIU soccer player Nils Kloster has always received both All-Illinois and All-Midwest acclaim and with the announcement of the 1986 units, it marked the third straight year of receiving first-team recognition from both areas. Kloster was initially a second-team choice for both all-star units as a freshman.
The senior from Oslo, Norway has scored 45 goals (to share the all-time lead with Ed Kozitski) plus an all-time best 24 assists for the school record 114 point total. Kloster also claims four career hat tricks.
Kloster was a first-team All-Metro selection for a fourth straight season while mid-fielder Atle Sundland picked up his third consecutive first-team title after having been a second-team choice as a freshman.
Helge Abrahamsen and defensive teammate Marx Succes received second-team All-Metro notice for 1986.
Among the four post-season honores, only Abrahamsen will return next year.
