Police arrest DeKalb man for possession of cocaine

Police seized an undisclosed amount of cocaine and paraphernalia from a DeKalb residence Thursday.

Police arrested John E. Wilkinson, 31, 133 Gurler St., and charged him with unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

These charges are Class I and Class IV felonies punishable by jail and fines. Assistant State’s Attorney Duke Harris said punishment for a Class I felony is four to 15 years in the state penitentiary and a $250,000 fine.

A Class IV felony is punishable by one to three years in the state penitentiary and a fine up to $15,000.

Harris said one to 15 grams of cocaine had to be seized in order for a Class I felony to be imposed.
