Today’s election to fill six SA senate positions

Students will decide who will fill six positions in the Student Association senate and decide whether the Illinois Student Association referendum passes during today’s senate elections.

Passage of the ISA referendum, which would increase each students’ fees $1, would strengthen the ISA.

SA President Jim Fischer said, “States with strong student governments and funding are much better organized. We had a $150 tuition hike last semester because we had a problem with organization.”

The three candidates running for the vacant on-campus seat are: Aaron Burke, Risa Newman and Richard Sypniewski.

The fourteen candidates running for the five vacant off-campus seats are: Gregg Bliss, Lisa Calhoun, Robert Chernesky, Sheri DeLuca, Halina Jagiello, Victor Ligocki, John Paul, Tom Rogers, Huda Scheidelman, Christopher Schlake, Randy Thompson, James Valentine, Connie Veremis and Marian Zykan.

The only voting poll, located near the Pow-Wow room in the Holmes Student Center, is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
