Cut Big Jim’s pay
January 20, 1988
I am writing because I work for the state and because Gov. Thompson found it necessary to cut our pay increase this year. Then he found that he should give himself a pay increase. We, the people of the state of Illinois, are in fact his boss. We should decide when Thompson gets a pay increase!
What kind of economy would we have if everybody went to work and decided to give themselves a pay increase and then said they were going to cut the money they pay to send their kids to school? I had to get a student loan to go to school. But since Thompson cut my pay increase, I can’t pay back my loan!
I am asking that everybody that reads this letter would sit down and write a short note. Tell the governor that he should take a pay cut until we vote to give him a pay increase!
