Motorists cautioned

Local police officers are advising drivers to take increased precaution while traveling in the area due to recent snow flurries.
University Police Lt. Ron Williams said in slick or icy conditions such as those on Thursday, drivers should allow “more time to slow down and drive defensively with consideration for other people.”
Williams said drivers should allow more time to stop because slick or icy conditions limit wheel contact with the pavement and cause vehicles to slide.
No snow-related accidents occurred Thursday on campus streets, Williams said. But, DeKalb Police Sgt. Don Berke said, “We’ve had quite a few (snow-related) accidents today (Thursday)—at least five during my shift.”
Drivers should take caution when frosty or icy conditions are present, especially on bridges, Berke said.
