Anonymous donor promises money

An anonymous donor has promised to match the amount of money collected by the Newman Catholic Student Center this week to help complete payments for roof repairs made last spring.
Sister Roberta Klesener of the center said the donor called last week to say he would match any roof funds collected through this week.
She said roof repairs on the 26-year-old center are complete, but the work for which has not been entirely paid.
The center owes an $11,000 of the original amount of repairs, which was $37,000, she said.
The main source of the $26,000 already collected came out of contributions from students and permanent parishoner units collected through “second collections” at the end of mass, Klesener said. Money also came from donations made by alumni and parents, she said.
Without the anonymous donor, the parish would have continued to rely on weekly contributions, but hopefully, the $11,000 needed will be met by the end of this week, Klesener said.
Through “second collections” this past weekend, $3,300 was donated in addition to the $26,000 already collected, and the center “would like to reach $5,500,” Klesener said. “If we can raise $5,500 this week, our debt will be covered.”
The donor will match gifts through Friday, Klesener said. No collections will be held at daily masses, but anyone can bring their donations to the center or send them through the mail before the end of the week, she said.
