Police report sexual assault incident
December 8, 1987
University Police Lt. Ken Kaiser said an incident of acquaintance-related sexual assault occurred Saturday on the NIU campus.
An acquaintance-related sexual assault occurs when the victim knows the offender.
Police said the incident allegedly occurred in Grant Towers South Saturday morning.
NIU Health Service officials notified University Police Saturday morning that they were treating a female sexual assault victim who wished to speak to police.
Two other acquaintance-related sexual assaults occurred in NIU dormitories in November. Kaiser said the first occurred Nov. 13 in Stevenson Hall and the second Nov. 14 in Douglas Hall.
University Police Capt. James Webster said detectives currently are investigating the three criminal sexual assault incidents.
Kaiser said he believes women now are reporting sexual assaults more often because they are more aware “that they can do something.”
Since October, DeKalb Police reported three rapes have occurred in the city of DeKalb. DeKalb Police Sgt. Charles Kross said after investigating the three rapes, he “did not see a connection between the criminal sexual assaults.”
Kross said the three incidents in DeKalb were stranger related. Only one of these incidents involved a man with a ski mask, according to police.
Stranger-related sexual assaults occur when the victim does not know the offender.
