After reading the letter writen by Rich Schuch, commenting on Gretchyn Lenger’s column, we felt that since rape is such an awful crime another response was in order.

With the events that have transpired at NIU, the fear of rape has increased. We feel the information in the column concerning the rumor lacks credibility. This promotes even more unnecessary fear for NIU students.

As a form of media, we understand that The Northern Star is simply trying to inform us of the situation, but we agree with Rich Schuch that there must be some sort of separation between fact and fiction.

We know that rape is a problem that shouldn’t be avoided. But let the facts be uncovered and leave the rumors to lunchtime gossip.
