Gymnasts will host meet

NIU women gymnasts will attempt to get the butterflies out in an intrasquad meet at 8 p.m. in Chick Evans Field House tonight.

Because only a portion of the squad has had a chance to compete in the fieldhouse this semester (during the NIU Mixed Pairs Invitational), women’s coach Bobbie Cesarek wants to give all the gymnasts an opportunity to get used to competing before the semester ends.

“It’s a semi-culmination to a whole semester’s work,” Cesarek said. “It’s a great opportunity for the team as a whole to find out ‘Where am I?’ and ‘Where do I need to go?’ before second semester.”

Cesarek says she wants the freshmen to get acquainted with the fieldhouse atmosphere, because the lighting and spacing is different than the team’s practice surroundings.

Original plans were to have the 10-member team split in two and compete against each other. But one of the members suffered a minor injury yesterday during practice, so Cesarek said they will just have to “scramble it.”
