December 7, 1987
NIU men’s and women’s diving teams separated from its usual partner—the swimming team—Friday and Saturday, to test their skills in the Northwestern Big Ten Western meet in Evanston.
Although NIU did not capture first place in any of the four diving events, Susan Shaughnessy placed second in the women’s one-meter diving with a 399.5.
Madolyn Scotty had a fourth-place showing in the one-meter event with a 376.95, and Patricia Ackerman was the other Huskie to place in the event with a 267.75, good for 11th place.
Other Huskie placings include eighth in the men’s one-meter diving by Mike Sprehe with a 369.80. Sprehe also took ninth in the men’s three-meter diving contest with a 338.15.
In the fourth event, Scotty took seventh with a 386.15, Shaughnessy captured 9th with 340.85, and Ackerman held onto 10th, scoring 282.90.
The divers will take a break until Jan. 8-9, when the women’s team will travel to the Schroeder Diving Invitational at Brown Deer, Wi.
