NIU student Edward Stange, 415 Lincoln Hall, was pronounced guilty Tuesday of the misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of weapons, Assistant State’s Attorney Duke Harris said.
arris said Stange pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and 100 hours of community service.
arris said Stange also will be required to pay the $46 court fine.
University Police arrested Stange on Aug. 31 after he displayed a .22 semi-automatic handgun with a loaded clip in his dormitory room.
Police said they previously had received the information about the gun from Lincoln Hall staff members on Aug. 29.
Police, with an arrest warrant, also recovered a quantity of cannabis from the room.
UP Lt. Ken Kaiser said after the arrest the amount of the cannabis was small enough that Stange was not charged.
