Band to play final show of semester

The NIU Huskie Band, Silverettes and Color Guard will appear for the last time this semester tonight at 8 p.m. in the Boutel Concert Hall.

Usually held in the Egyptian Theatre, the performance will be held in the concert hall for the first time, free of charge.

uskie Band Director Bibb said the location is beneficial for several reasons. “First, we’re an NIU organization, so it’s home. And because the logistics of moving the band, even from here to the stadium, is a nightmare.”

He said the only concern is if there is enough space. Bibb said there is not enough space but “we’ll do it anyway.”

Margaret Kohler, assistant director and silverette adviser, said, “We’ll be on the stage, in the aisles and around the perimeter, it should be pretty tight.”

Bibb said this has been “by far the best collegiate marching band I’ve ever seen or heard. I don’t think they’ve faltered once in giving their 110 percent.”

To wrap up this year’s performance season, the concert/show will include “a smattering of everything” from the six home and four off-campus performances.

The band also will perform the Huskie fight song under the direction of a “guest” conductor chosen from the audience, he said.
