Profs. misquoted

We were happy to see the article “NIU student wins internship award” in the Nov. 4 Northern Star, but we’d like to correct some erroneous statements attributed to us.

The article stated that Dr. Minor said “We (sociology) have departmental writing requirements. All majors should require some type of writing class.” The second sentence should have read, “There should be some sort of writing requirement in every sociology class.”

Dr. McKeefery-Reynolds was erroneously quoted as saying, “Students interested in internships can be eligible for credit through the Cooperative Education office.” Students interested in co-op internships should contact Cooperative Education, but academic credit for these internships can be arranged only through the academic departments.

Finally, The Carnation Company representative, Lisa Schaff, said they looked for good people-skills and “aggresiveness” in their merchandisers. She also noted that while good writing skills are important in businss careers generally, they are not a specific requirement for these merchandising internships.
