Phi Kappa Phi names scholars

Phi Kappa Phi, the highest honorary society at NIU, has named famed NIU students as Jack Villmow Scholars for 1987-88.

The scholarship program, in its sixth year, honors seniors from among those inducted into the PKP society their junior year.

“NIU juniors with a grade point average of 3.8 or better are eligible to be members of Phi Kappa Phi,” said Phillip Wells, secretary of the NIU chapter of PKP.

“The honor society is unique in that it takes in all disciplines and all colleges at NIU, so it is a university-wide program,” he said.

PKP has 27 members, all of whom were eligible to become a Villmow scholar.

The five Villmow scholars and their majors include: Dennis Ainger, history; Nick Apostolakos, accountancy; Carolyn Casella, biological sciences; Tracy Methenitis, marketing; and Lorraine Sura, a double major in business systems and analysis and marketing.

Methenitis said that each scholar received a congratulatory letter and a monetary award.

The scholars will be recognized at a Presidential Award Convocation Oct. 7.
