Context important
April 28, 1987
The Northern Star should be commended for its recent series on discrimination.
One article within the series focuses on discrimination against disabled persons. It is within this article that I am presented as a member of the organization, Students for Rehabilitation; I am not. Further, remarks I made during a speech at the March 5 anti-discrimination rally were presented. It is my feeling these statements were removed from their original context and their true meaning misconstrued through the reporting of The Northern Star. In summarizing one’s comments, it is the responsibility of the reporter to accurately convey the true and complete context of what was spoken. It is my opinion that The Northern Star has fallen short in this regard. I find The Northern Star’s recounting of my thoughts a disappointment.
