There for help
March 30, 1987
I was pleased to see the issue of suicide addressed in Laurie Johnson’s column on March 26. This is, indeed, a pressing concern of our society which needs sensitive coverage. I would like to point out that the Counseling and Student Development (CSDC) does have special services for students in a crisis—for example, students feeling immediate suicidal thoughts or feelings. If students are experiencing immediate distress and cannot wait for an intake interview, they can be seen by the walk-in counselor, Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. We would appreciate a call that day to let us know someone would like to come in during the walk-in hours. Of course, an emergency call to our office at any time will be dealt with immediately. The CSDC hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and our phone is 753-1206. In addition, there is a counselor on call after office hours (including weekends) for emergencies. This person can be contacted by calling 753-1311.
