Two trials were continued Thursday in the DeKalb County Court House because the defending attorneys were tied up in other cases and a court reporter was not available.

Preliminary hearings were scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. for Alan Shubert, 21, 1307 W. Lincoln Hwy. and Larry Parrish, 17, 1125 Pleasant St.

Shubert was charged with aggravated unlawful restraint and unlawful use of a weapon. Shubert was arrested Feb. 16 in the Chick Evans Field House by the NIU University Police.

Shubert allegedly displayed a gun in the fieldhouse, but the gun was not fired and there were no injuries. Assistant State’s Attorney Duke Harris said Shubert’s case will be continued on April 23.

Aggravated unlawful restraint is a class-three felony, punishable by one to five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Unlawful use of a weapon is a class-four felony, punishable by one to three years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Parrish was charged with criminal sexual abuse and unlawful restraint. Parrish was arrested by the DeKalb Police on March 5. The arrest stemmed from the complaint of a female juvenile of an assault which occurred at Parrish’s residence. Harris said Parrish’s case will be continued on April 9.

Unlawful restraint is a class-four felony with a possible penalty of one to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a class-two felony with a possible penalty of three to seven years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
