A lesson in tact
March 27, 1987
As always, on Mar. 19 I was reading the editorial section to catch up on the latest scandals that happened around Northern, when I read the editorial by Elizabeth Volkman.
I’m glad to hear that the IRHA conference went well for you, Elizabeth, but it is quite obvious that you have not learned much while attending this conference. You need a lesson in tact and humane behavior. Especially as social co-chairperson I would think you would know how to treat people, but the IRHA committee must have been awfully hard up to have you in any social position at all.
The letters to the editor section is where you comment on departments or NIU officials, not another student. The appropriate place for the airing of your grievances should have been in the company of Keith Bansemer, not in front of the whole NIU community. I have never met Mr. Bansemer, and that doesn’t really matter. The main point here is for you to realize the appropriate place and time to complain about a person’s behavior.
Just remember, you started this, and now maybe you’ll realize how Keith Bansemer felt.
