Indie Horror Film Festival returns Saturday

By Northern Star Staff

The Indie Horror Film Festival returns to DeKalb 10:30 a.m. July 13 at the Red Roof Inn, 1212 W. Lincoln Highway. This full-day festival will screen a lineup of over 60 independent horror films, both short and feature length, and music videos.

The event was founded in 2005 and then came back from the dead in 2010, and the festival has since been held annually. Independent filmmakers submit their films through the site Film Freeway, and films are then chosen for consideration for the festival’s awards. Submissions are now open for next year’s festival, according to the event’s Facebook page.

Awards are given to films in categories including but not limited to best special effects, best actor or actress, best music and best editing. A director’s choice will also be selected, as well as awards for the best short film and best feature film.

In addition to film screenings, the festival includes an expo where local vendors may advertise their products and businesses to the public.

Festival passes are $20 and can be purchased through the event’s official website, indiehorrorfest.com.
