The box office has once again been dominated by superheroes with Marvel’s release of “Captain Marvel.”

The box office weekend of March 1-3 had a new contender in “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral.” However, it’s 27 million dollar gross was no match for “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” which, for the second week in a row, led the domestic box office with 30 million dollars according to Box Office Mojo.

1. “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”- $30,028,540

“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” contains a great story layered behind spectacular animation which makes one feel like they can fly. Critically acclaimed with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%, the film is perfect for children and adults alike while serving as a fantastic conclusion for this ten year franchise.

2. “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral”- $27,062,332

With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 18%, it’s clear that the 11th and final entry of this series is no critical darling. Despite this, the Medea series has consistently brought in large numbers at the box office and that streak continues. While Tyler Perry has seen dramatic roles such as Secretary of State Colin Powell in “Vice” or Gone Girl, he’s very comfortable in his comedy films and it looks like the public is comfortable there as well

3. “Alita: Battle Angel”- $7,221,417

With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 60%, “Alita: Battle Angel” has visual effects that both critics and audiences agree bring the world of the manga adaptation to life. Producer James Cameron, director of “Titanic” and “Avatar,” and director Robert Rodriguez, of “Sin City” and “Spy Kids,” have created a manga adaptation which has constantly been in the top three films since its Feb. 14 release.
