The box office has once again been dominated by superheroes with Marvel’s release of “Captain Marvel.”

The box office weekend of March 8-10 saw Marvel dominating the box office with the female led “Captain Marvel” which soared to over 400 million dollars worldwide. At this rate it appears that the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will topple China’s “The Wandering Earth” to become the highest grossing film of 2019. “Captain Marvel” has started the chain of blockbusters which will continue with films like “Shazam!” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

1. “Captain Marvel”- $153,433,423

“Captain Marvel’s” low stakes story and entertaining action serves as a perfect film before the anticipated “Avengers: Endgame.” With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 79%, the film has garnered love from both critics and audiences while also setting up a character of vast importance for the MCU.

2. “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”- $14,685,005

“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” contains a great story layered behind spectacular animation which makes one feel like they can fly. Critically acclaimed with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%, the film is perfect for children and adults alike while serving as a fantastic conclusion for this ten year franchise.

3. “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral”- $12,465,383

With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 18%, it’s clear that the 11th and final entry of this series is no critical darling. Despite this, the Medea series has consistently brought in large numbers at the box office and that streak continues. While Tyler Perry has seen dramatic roles such as Secretary of State Colin Powell in “Vice” or Gone Girl, he’s very comfortable in his comedy films and it looks like the public is comfortable there as well
