Track and Field enters Indoor Championships strong

We’re a few days from the Mid-American Conference indoor championship for the track and field team. The ladies have stepped up to the challenge, and qualified in quite a few events.

 

Taylor Ramsey

First-year multi-event runner Taylor Ramsey has qualified for the indoor championships in the high-jump, clearing 1.69 meters and winning the competition at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Feb. 8.

 

Syanne Johnston

First-year sprinter Syanne Johnston reached a MAC qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59 seconds at the EIU Friday Night Special Feb. 15.

 

Mackenzie Callahan

Sophomore distance runner Mackenzie Callahan reached a MAC qualifying mark in the mile with a time of 4:51.26 minutes which was also the seventh fastest time in the conference this season. This was at the GVSU Big Meet Feb. 8.

 

Diamond Riley

Sophomore sprinter and jumper Diamond Riley had the MAC’s fifth best mark in the triple jump with a mark of 11.98 meters finishing sixth at the Meyo Invitational Feb. 2.

 

Remy Amarteifio

Junior multi-event runner Remy Amarteifio posted the third best time in the MAC this season in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.39 seconds at the EIU Friday Night Special Feb 15. This time earned Amarteifio the title of MAC indoor track athlete of the week.

 

Ericka Hibser

Senior distance runner Ericka Hibser met the MAC qualifying time in the 5K run with a time of 16:49.37 minutes at the GVSU Holiday Open Dec. 7.

 

Jehvania Whyte

Senior jumper Jehvania Whyte earned the MAC mark in the triple jump posting a 12.70 meters mark, winning the competition at the GVSU Lints Alumni Open Jan. 19.

The Huskies will be back in action for the MAC Indoor Championship Friday, Feb. 22 in Kent, Ohio.
