Softball sits at 2-2 after second day of Lion Classic

The softball team began its 2019 season with a double-header Friday against San Jose State and Southeastern Louisiana. 

Friday:

In game one, NIU fell 3-2 to San Jose after surrendering two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Spartans a one-run victory.

The Huskies bounced back in game 2 picking up their first win of the season defeating the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. NIU’s 7-3 victory came on the strength four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Saturday:

On Saturday NIU faced off against Mississippi Valley State University and Southeastern Louisiana.

Game one saw the Huskies taking the 8-0 shutout victory over Mississippi Valley. NIU allowed only two hits while committing zero errors.

The Huskies followed their solid victory with a hard-fought 2-5 loss to Southeastern Louisiana. NIU out hit the Lions 8-6 but fell short in the end. 

The Huskies will wrap up the Lion Classic 1 p.m. tomorrow when they take on Nicholls State. This game will finish off the first weekend of the new softball season.
