Highest Grossing Films of the Weekend: February 22-24

This past weekend saw a mix between past weekend and new releases dominating domestically. Animation and action films reigned supreme this final weekend in February.

1. “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”- $55,022,245

The third and final film in Dreamwork’s ten year series, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” delivers great action with heartfelt emotion from its main characters. Critical acclaimed with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%, the film is perfect for children and adults alike.

2. “Alita: Battle Angel”- $12,342,291

From producer James Cameron, director of “Titanic” and “Avatar,” and director by Robert Rodriguez, director of “Sin City” and “Spy Kids,” comes this manga adaptation. With a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 60%, the film has been praised for its immersive visual effects and fight sequences as well as for the performance of Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg.

3. “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”- $9,683,481

Then long awaited sequel to “The Lego Movie” has been critically acclaimed with a Rotten Tomatoes Score of 85%. While it’s unlikely the film will bomb, considering it’s budget was 99 million dollars, audiences aren’t as excited about the adventures of Legos as they used to be with a current total worldwide gross of $136,470,388 compared to the first’s total gross of $469,100,00.
