“A Series of Unfortunate Events” came to a relieving conclusion on Tuesday as Netflix released the third and final season of the suspenseful yet dreary series.

This seven episode season shows the final adventures of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny  as they continue to escape Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris, who just wanted their enormous fortune and his unusual entourage of henchmen, which consisted the hook-handed man, his adopted daughter named Carmelita Spats, and his love Esmé Squalor, played by Usman Ally, Kitana Turnball and Lucy Punch.

This adaptation of the book series by Lemony Snicket, “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” never failed to be exciting as the characters underwent remarkable development, fantastically designed locations were visited, and big secrets were finally revealed.

Several characters like the villainous Count Olaf and the hook-handed man, Fernald have changed significantly by the end of the show. Both characters show a more caring and intimate side as the series comes to a close. Count Olaf surprisingly helps a pregnant Kit Snicket, played by Allison Williams, before meeting his own fate. Fernald grows fond of the youngest orphan, Sunny Baudelaire, played by Presley Smith and ultimately helps Sunny when Olaf threatens her life.

The most prominent locations in this season like Hotel Denouement and Volunteer Fire Department (V.F.D) headquarters reveal more secrets about the Baudelaires and Count Olaf. Locations throughout the series have incorporated the eye-shaped insignia of V.F.D., which continues in this season and adds to the overall effect of V.F.D. Viewers finally understand where the anger Olaf radiates comes from. He feels betrayed by everything he learned as he rejects V.F.D.

The mission to find the intriguing Sugar Bowl comes to an unsatisfying end. The history behind the Sugar Bowl, which is not revealed until “The Penultimate Peril” episode, is more interesting than the bowl itself. After one V.F.D steals it from another member, poison darts are thrown, which results in the schisms of V.F.D.

At the reunion of V.F.D. members at Hotel Denouement, the Baudelaires find familiar faces from past seasons, such as their uncle Monty, played by Aasif Mandvi, and Justice Strauss, played by Joan Cusack. These characters all failed to help the children when faced with Count Olaf’s disguises.

The series overall came to a pleasant end as the Baudelaires finally find peace and can move on with their lives.
