Huskies offensive lineman Max Scharping was nominated for the 2018 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team for his volunteer efforts and community service, according to a July 17 press release.

Scharping is one of 169 nominees from across the country. A final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. This award has been given out since 1992 and brings together student athletes from all across the country to honor their dedication.

Scharping’s efforts include several different types of community service. He participated in natural disaster cleanups in the local community and volunteered at three local elementary schools, participating in reading programs. In addition, Scharping volunteered at the local YMCA for “Healthy Kids Day” and youth football camps.

Scharping was named first team All-MAC last year as well.
