5 Disney Movies to Get You in the Feels
March 20, 2018
Cry yourself a river with these five Disney movies that are sure to awaken your inner child. Prepare yourself with a box of tissues, a cozy blanket and an extra large bottle of wine.
Walt Disney Studios is the master of heartfelt storylines and cinematic feel that leave you all in your feels. From clownfish to lion cubs, each story will make you cherish these last few chilly days before springtime sets in, cuddle up on your couch and get ready for some emotional release.
“The Lion King”
Disney redefined the conventional family dynamic in this story about a young lion cub who witnesses the murder of his father at the hands of his backstabbing uncle. Simba struggles throughout the film to find his purpose in life, facing challenge after challenge and failing 90% of the time. The circle of life is a real struggle and we definitely level with Simba that growing up is hard to do.
“UP”
The opening sequence will get the waterworks going from an early start. Ellie and Carl are a match made in heaven with their kindred spirit for adventure. Disney never misses the mark to make each story hashtag #relatable. We may have people in our lives that push us through our fears, but once the spark is gone, it’a hard to go back to doing the things that make us happy. It may take someone else’s struggle to show what kind of adventure is out there.
“Finding Nemo”
Off the boat, Disney is pulling at the heartstrings within the opening scene. Marlin and his wife encounter a bloodthirsty barracuda within their anemone, leaving behind pain and devastation. Marlin loses his wife and all of his eggs except one: Nemo. He is the lone survivor of the attack and has to deal with the understandable over-protectiveness of his father. Yet, Nemo, teaches his father and the audience about life and how it cannot be lived in fear. Among the risks life has, some of us are lucky and through life we just keep swimming.
“Inside Out”
The daily motions of life are seen through a young Riley’s perspective, who struggles to balance emotions through a new chapter of life. Riley moves to San Francisco and leaves behind things that contribute to her identity: friends, interests and memories. She feels neglected and attempts to hitch a ride back to her hometown. We all can relate to the feeling of loneliness and missing the things that make us who we are.
“Coco”
Masterpiece is the only word that can do the movie justice. The accurate references to Hispanic culture make you feel as if you’re a part of the familia, while paying incredible homage to their rituals and philosophies. With a passion for music, Miguel takes matters in his own hands to take control of his future and seize his moment. We can all relate to feeling lost at some point, and discovering something inside of ourselves that helps bring us back to where we belong.
