Study playlist

By Sara Rasmussen

Trying to study for finals can be a bore, so the Scene writers have compiled a playlist to aid in this stressful time.

“Brave Honest Beautiful” by Fifth Harmony

This toe-tapping, hip-swinging song will have you dancing out of your seat. “Brave Honest Beautiful” featuring Meghan Trainor, is one of our favorite songs to listen to while studying for finals because it makes us feel confident.

“You can dance like Beyoncé, you can shake like Shakira, ‘cause you’re brave, yeah, you’re fearless, and you’re beautiful, you’re beautiful,” sings Trainor.

“Brave Honest Beautiful” gives us the positive feeling that we will do well on even our hardest finals.

“Paranoid” by Black Sabbath

This one is for when we don’t want to hear piano music and just want to punch our tests in the face. After we hear this song, that test’s face would be a crater, and our fist would be a glowing engine of pure awesome.

This song gets us so pumped and is mostly set for studying sessions where we know we need to shut up and get stuff done. “All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy,” sings lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. “Think I’ll lose my mind if I don’t find something to pacify.”

This is no silly song; this song is for the champions; the ones with tiger blood in their veins and the ones who ride into battle, sword drawn and unafraid of any final examination.

“Survivor” by Destiny’s Child

This song can speak to so many other situations you may be going through during this time of final preparation, but its main point is to keep you uplifted. It’s an anthem to keep you focused on achieving whatever it is you need to.

This song is usually turned all the way up in our headphones and we sometimes find ourselves nodding aggresively. It’s during times where we find ourselves mentally exhausted we sing along in triumph: “I’m a survivor, I’m not gon’ give up, I’m not gon’ stop, I’m gon’ work harder, I’m a survivor, I’m gonna make it, I will survive, keep on survivin’.”

We will survive those finals.

“Break Free” by Ariana Grande

This EDM jam featuring Zedd is another song to get us pumped for studying. The synths and exciting drops of music make us want to jump around. Songs that get our legs, arms or hips moving motivate us to do well on finals because it brings down our stress levels.

“Break Free” reminds us of summer in the sense that students are ready to break free from this endless study grind. “This is the part when I say I don’t want ya, I’m stronger than I’ve been before,” Grande sings. “This is the part when I break free, ‘cause I can’t resist it no more.”

“Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy

This song is haunting but not distracting; an absolute joy to the ear that often calms our minds. We have come to associate its tones with concentration and most importantly with success. It’s a gentle and calming piano piece we can use during our study sessions to keep us calm and relaxed.

“Ways To Go” by Grouplove

If the upbeat, quirky sound of Grouplove doesn’t get you pumped as it is, the lyrics of “Ways To Go” are sure to boost your morale: “I’ve got a little bit longer — I’ve got ways to go.” It’s a positive mid-week song that’s bound to help you hang in there and finish off those finals. strong. We can’t help but tap our toes and shout the lyrics when our spirits are low and we certainly don’t mind turning this duet into a collaborative group(love) experience.
