Police suspect gang relation in shooting

By Northern Star Staff

The DeKalb Police Department is investigating a shooting they suspect is gang related.

Officers responded to a shots fired call that occurred at 9:22 p.m., Friday, on the 900 block of Greenbrier, where spent bullet casing were recovered at the scene. There were no reports of injury, according to Oct. 21 DeKalb Police Department press release.

The off-campus shooting is currently being investigated.

Investigators are also looking into a possible connection between Friday night’s shooting and other recent shootings that have occurred in the community.

Officials also addressed an issue with Rave, the automated messaging system that sends notifications regarding public safety events.

The message sent alerting the public about the shooting was missing a portion. Officials will address the technical issue with the system provider.
