Celebrate National Chocolate Milkshake Day
September 12, 2017
September 12 is National Chocolate Milkshake Day, a day celebrated by chocolate and ice cream lovers alike.
The term “milkshake” was coined in a British newspaper in 1855. In this time, milkshakes were alcoholic beverages made with milk, eggs and at least one shot of whiskey. By the 1900s, shakes served in soda fountains came in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors.
Celebrate by throwing calorie counts out the window and enjoying a tall, thick milkshake, and don’t forget the cherry on top! Portillo’s, 1780 Dekalb Ave., serves their patented chocolate cake shake which coincidentally contain an entire slice of homemade chocolate cake in a cup. They also make a mean chocolate malt that goes great with a burger and fries.
Steak ‘n Steak, 2380 Sycamore Rd., offers Shake Happy Hour weekdays from two to five p.m., where all shakes and drinks are half-priced. They have a huge menu filled with classic flavors and exciting, chocolatey additions such as s’mores, cocoa krispies and Nutella.
