DeKALB | DeKalb Police Department officials apprehended a man Wednesday on the banks of the Kishwaukee River near Northern Public Radio after receiving reports that he stole merchandise from the DeKalb Walmart.
The suspect allegedly fled out of the store with a shopping cart containing “a couple” of stolen televisions, said DeKalb Deputy Chief John Petragallo.
“He made it down to the water,” Petragallo said. “That’s where he was apprehended.”
The suspect eventually left the shopping cart of merchandise behind as he attempted to evade police through several neighborhoods on foot.
“The [residents] of the last neighborhood he ran through gave officers directions to where the suspect had [fled],” Petragallo said.
