Worst roommate experience ever: “Home Alone” – college edition

Q: Tell us about your worst roommate experience ever.
A: “One of the worst roommate experiences I’ve had in DeKalb happened during my last semester at NIU. I’d only met this girl when I came to see the apartment. I didn’t look too hard at it but it seemed nice and clean when I arrived. She did mention that she had a messy room but my room was fine. However, after moving in I realized she was extremely dirty. I cleaned and scrubbed everything when I moved in. It was like she had lived there for a long time. The grease was so hard to get off. I even had a sit-down with her to let her know… I also did not like living alone which is why I wanted a roommate but unfortunately, after move-in I realized she was never home. She would only leave at night which is when I really could have used a friend. I really hated when her friends or acquaintances would come knocking forever for her on our door but she wasn’t home. I even called the cops on a few people who wouldn’t leave my door. Being home alone was so horrible that luckily I had a great boyfriend that would come out every night after work to spend the night with me. Basically, on the weekends I would just go home to avoid the stress of it all. I was extremely happy to graduate and get out of town!”
