Oven fire occurs at Toppers Pizza, results in 10K damages

DeKALB | A structural fire occurred in a pizza oven around 5 a.m. on Friday at Toppers Pizza, 1015 W. Lincoln Highway, resulting in $10,000 in damages.

The fire was reported intentional, according to a Feb. 24 media release from the DeKalb Fire Department. During the morning of, employees of a nearby business reported the fire and DeKalb Fire Department responded. An off-duty firefighter also noticed the fire and attempted to extinguish it.

Fire crews were said to have deployed a hoseline to complete the extinguishment about two and a half hours after arrival. Assistance from Sycamore, Cortland, Malta, Genoa-Kingston, Shabbona and Maple Park Fire Departments were needed to control the fire.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters resulted from the incident.

The fire is still under investigation by DeKalb Fire and Police Departments.
