My lovely Sterling Archer (SPOILERS)

By Caitlyn Walls

If it hadn’t been for a friend, I would not have known of the magnificence that is Sterling Archer.

“Archer” is an FX animated TV show that aired in 2010. It revolves around the life of Sterling Archer and his fellow agents who work for the International Secret Intelligence Agency, run by his mother.

Since that fateful day last semester, I have been binge-watching and obsessing over the show nonstop. If I hear someone make an Archer reference, I’m going to invade their conversation. I am almost reduced to tears if I find out I’ve missed an episode that came on TV, even though I’ve already seen it a thousand times. I also wish I could cosplay as Archer’s fellow agent and ex-girlfriend, Lana Kane.

Here are a few reasons why I’m madly in love with this show.

1. Raunchy comedy

I find raunchy comedy hilarious, and “Archer” has a lot of it! This man has literally slept with every woman in the office, and he isn’t ashamed of it. Whenever he sees a beautiful woman, he has to sleep with her. Since everyone knows Archer’s personality, it doesn’t surprise them. Although, they do protest his heavy sexual interaction with various women.

The creators also added a little surprise for the viewers. Because the voice actor of Archer, H. Jon Benjamin, is also the voice of Bob in “Bob’s Burgers,” they did a little bit of a fusion between the two shows. The episode is called “Fugue and Riffs,” and it’s the first episode of season four. Even if you don’t want to watch the series, I still recommend this episode if you’re a “Bob’s Burgers” fan.

2. Lana and Archer

I live for the dynamic between Lana and Archer. They used to date, but they broke up because he couldn’t seem to leave other women alone. On the field, they always argue and fight, but if one of them gets into trouble, the other, while screaming their name, always jumps in to help. They both still care for each other, but their lack of maturity pushes them to annoy each other or make each other jealous. My favorite part is when Archer annoys Lana by repeatedly calling her name until she finally answers him only to say something silly.

Even so, Archer still sees Lana as his best friend. He even admits it in one of the episodes. I see Archer and Lana as the perfect couple. I won’t spoil everything but because of the events that occur in seasons four and five, they are now connected for life! (It didn’t happen how you think it did.)

3. Settings

Archer and the gang end up in many different places for their missions. They’re seen in various locations aside from the main location: their office. Their missions are so interesting, and I always wish I was along for the ride to witness their crazy adventures firsthand. Some missions push the characters to near-death situations and some not. From Miami to Moscow, they (well, mostly Archer) almost always find a way to mess up a mission.

Archer currently has seven seasons with a new season premiering on FXX April 5. I love the crazy antics of the characters, and their personalities are so outrageous that I can’t stop watching. You have less than a month to catch up on seven seasons before the new one airs, so I suggest you start now. I salute you!
