Greg Brady, an NIU alumnus who has been an employee of NIU’s legal team for more than 14 years, will replace Jerry Blakemore as the acting vice president and general counsel.

As the leader of the Office of the General Counsel, Brady will function as the chief legal officer for NIU by reporting to President Doug Baker and the Board of Trustees and supervising attorneys responsible for giving legal advice to Baker and employees of NIU, according to NIU’s website.

The replacement was announced in a Thursday Campus Update email which detailed Brady’s experience, including his work in “governance, administration, student affairs, research affairs, academic affairs, employment and labor law and litigation.”

Brady received the Supportive Professional Staff Award for Advocacy in 2014 and two Supportive Professional Staff Certificates of Achievement, according to the Campus Update.

Blakemore was paid $235,000.08 in Fiscal Year 2016, according to the Illinois Board of Higher Education’s website. Brady’s salary is not listed as of today.

Blakemore began the position in 2011 after filling a vacancy left by Kenneth Davidson who retired from the position, according to a March 24, 2011, Northern Star article.
