Every week the Northern Star will pick out a recipe and make the recipe during the week. Try the recipe for upgraded ramen here.
Final thoughts on upgraded ramen
After the upgraded ramen finished sizzling in the wok, our bowls were filled with the noodles and vegetables.
Twisting the noodles around the fork, the steam wafted upwards, smelling delicious. Although the smells and sounds of the ramen were satisfying a few minor adjustments could be made for future recreations of this recipe.
1. Adding the juice from an entire lime should only be done if there is meat added to the stir fry. Without meat in the stir fry, the lime juice should be reduced to 1/2 of a lime. The taste from the lime juice was strong and could be less obvious in the dish.
2. This recipe, although includes a lot of vegetables, could use some more. During the creation of upgraded ramen, we forgot to buy peppers but instead we added more broccoli and peas. Some additional vegetables that could be added to enhance the overall flavor would be mini corn cobs and water chestnuts.
This recipe took about an hour to create and eat. The most time consuming part of this recipe was the cutting and cooking of the vegetables.
When planning to make this recipe on a time crunch, chop and cook all the vegetables ahead of time. Then, when making the recipe toss them into the pan to heat up with the noodles and sauce.
Aside from these minor changes, upgraded ramen will be a household favorite at a low cost.
