Schnucks recalls chicken; Dekalb store unaffected

Correction: The Northern Star mistakenly reported that the DeKalb Schnucks, 975 S. Annie Glidden Road, received possibly tainted chicken. However, the DeKalb Schnucks is not one of the stores affected by this recall.

DeKALB – Pre-cooked chicken breast distributed by Schnucks on Nov. 9 and 10 have been recalled for further inspection.

The United State Department of Agriculture ranked the recall as class I out of three classifications, deeming the assumed under-cooked chicken as the highest health risk.

The “Butter Garlic Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast” ready-to-eat grilled chicken breasts was packaged on Nov. 8 and was distributed with a sell date of Nov. 13. The chicken shipped to 26 Schnucks locations in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois. The Rockford location, 2601 North Mulford Road, is the closest affected store to DeKalb.

Consumers who bought this product will have a purchase date of Nov. 9 or Nov. 10 on the label, and would have come from the Deli/Chef’s Express service. Additionally, the product can be identified by the number “EST. 13562” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Discovered on Nov 10 in the Schnucks Kitchen of O’Fallon, Missouri, by a customer complaint, there have been no other confirmed reports of ill health effects. Schnucks Markets Inc. advised people to not consume and to return the batch of chicken.
