SYCAMORE | Jeffery Conery, 47, of Sycamore, died in a house fire at 1847 S. Somonauk St., which the Sycamore Fire Department responded to at 4:43 a.m. Sunday.

No other occupants were in the building at the time of the fire.

The cause and origin of fire remains under investigation. The residence had working smoke alarms at the time of the fire, according to a Sycamore Fire Department press release.

The State Fire Marshal Office is assisting the Sycamore Fire Department in its investigation.

When firefighters responded, which included assistance from DeKalb, Cortland, Genoa, Kingston, Elburn, Hampshire and Burlington firefighters, the single-family house was found partially engulfed in flames, according to the press release.

The damage to the house was estimated at $50,000.
