Q: What are your organization’s goals?

A: The goal and mission of African Students Association is to unify and enrich the African community in and out of NIU through service, educational and social events all while promoting socio-cultural diversity.

Our vision is that ASA will become the leading cultural organization on campus – one that will create awareness of African issues, cultures and values, history and political structure not only on campus and its surrounding towns, counties and states but across the country.

Q: Why should people join your organization?

A: ASA is an organization we are excited to help nurture the academic strengths, encourage the personal growth and inspire the creativity of our members and the NIU community. We recognize that irrespective of the differences in background, culture or nationality we are one. Together we can make a difference in and out of Africa so we strive to “be the change we want to see”.

In an effort to reflect the diversity of Africa and the NIU community, ASA programs and other activities encourage the involvement of Africans, Americans and other nationalities. Opportunities are open to people regardless of their race, nationality, sex, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Students (graduates or undergraduates), faculty, alumni, educators, artists, employers and rising leaders in and outside of NIU are encouraged to participate in academic, cultural, sports and professional exchanges.

Q: What makes your organization unique?

A: Our uniqueness lies in our strength and our strength lies in the diverse cultures and nationalities in our organization. Our organization features a melting pot of talents, creative minds and problem solvers. Our success comes from the diverse talents each member possesses and brings to the table making our organization a fun-loving one.
