Easy décor to make for Halloween

Easy décor to make for Halloween

By Sophia Phillips

Decorations for Halloween may seem expensive to buy or difficult to create, but they can be made using simple things lying around.

Here are some cheap and easy-to-make Halloween room decoration ideas using materials you may already have.

Refrigerator ghost

Students can turn their refrigerator or mini-fridge into a spooky ghost. This project works best on a white or black refrigerator.

1. Cut out ghostly shaped eyes and mouth from construction paper using black paper for a white refrigerator and white paper for a black refrigerator.

2. Clear off of the front of the refrigerator, tape the eyes and mouth to the refrigerator to make a spooky ghost face.

Rock jack-o’-lanterns

Carving pumpkins can be difficult, and the pumpkin will rot over time. A less messy alternative is to paint round shaped rocks to look like jack-o’-lanterns.

1. Paint a clean rock with orange paint until it is covered.

2. Use black paint or permanent marker to paint or draw a jack-o’-lantern face onto the rock using triangular shapes. This project is a cute indoor decoration that eliminates the mess of carving pumpkins and can be reused every year.

Halloween garland

This project can be made with any traditional Halloween shapes like pumpkins, ghosts or bats.

I recommend using various shapes of a few shapes or creating a consistent pattern of a favored shape.

1. Draw or trace the shape onto a piece of construction paper and cut out duplicates.

2. Using a hole punch, make one or two holes in the top of the cut out.

3. Pull string or yarn through the holes in the cut-outs to hang them from the wall or ceiling.

Paper spiderweb

This decoration is made just like a paper snowflake, except uses a spiderweb design. It can be made using construction paper, printer paper, butcher block paper, a garbage bag or recycled newspaper. This looks best when made with white, black or gray materials. Using glitter spray paint gives the paper spiderwebs a spooky effect.

1. Cut any shape wanted in like spiderwebs, but make sure they connect together to pull apart accurately.

2. These spiderwebs can hang over door ledges or windowsills.

Creepy googly eyes

A fun way to make an inanimate object in a room look creepy is by giving it eyes.

1. Draw veins onto various size googly eyes using red permanent marker, and glue each separately to a red circles of construction paper slightly larger than the googly eye.

2. Tape the eyes onto anything to make a room seem eerie.
