DeKALB | The Huskies will continue their play this weekend in Washington, D.C. for the George Washington Invitational after losing three difficult matches in Hawaii last weekend.Head Coach Ray Gooden said the team had the chance to play against three very good teams in Hawaii, and traveling there was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and his team.

The experience to play teams like these will only help the team get better as they play future games, Gooden said. This is the first time the volleyball program is traveling to Washington, D.C. and the first time playing in the George Washington Invitational.

The participating teams in the invitational are NIU, James Madison University, University of Tennessee and the host of the event, George Washington University.

The Huskies are set to play all three other competitors – George Washington, James Madison, and Tennessee with the invitational only being held on Friday and Saturday.

To get ready for the weekend, the team is mainly focusing on consistency. Gooden wants his team to be mentally and physically ready after coming back from a tough trip.

“We are looking for our group to compete against three solid teams,” Gooden said, “All three teams have a good pace and solid skill set.”

The team is prepared to come out strong and face the talented teams scheduled, Gooden said.

The Huskies have faced George Washington twice and won both of their matchups.

The invitational will begin for the Huskies at 11 a.m. Friday versus James Madison followed by another game at 4 p.m. against Tennessee. The Huskies will come back out at noon on Saturday to take on George Washington.
