DeKALB | Men’s soccer is home from its 4-game season opening road-trip, as they host the NIU Adidas Invitational over the weekend.

NIU (0-2-2) has an opportunity to notch their first win of the season as they get set to take on the Binghamton University Bearcats tomorrow night.

Binghamton (2-0-2) is coming off of a win against the Manhattan College Jaspers Monday, as they remain undefeated early in the season. The coaching staff knows this will be a difficult test for the Huskies.

“It will be a tough game,” said NIU Head Coach Eric Luzzi. “We’ve seen them play a couple times, and they’re a very good team.”

The Huskies play two games overall in the invitational, concluding a difficult six-game stretch that saw NIU face opponents who were either ranked nationally or regionally.

“We knew this stretch was going to be really tough,” Luzzi said.

The Huskies will have to be sharp on offense to get the ball past this tough bearcat defense as Binghamton has a goals against average of less than one.

The Huskies, still in search of their first win, will be able enjoy the familiarity of their home field for the first time this season.

“Ultimately we like playing at home because it’s a field we practice on almost every day,” Luzzi said. “We’re definitely familiar with it.”

The Huskies will also play a match versus the Utah Valley State University Wolverines (3-0-0) at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Wolverines, who remain undefeated this season, have outscored their opponents 7-3, leading to their hot start.

“Everyone we play is a good team,” Luzzi said. “Going forward now, it’s just a matter of doing what we are capable of doing.”

Game one of the NIU Adidas Invitational for the Huskies will be against Binghamton at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Soccer Complex, a match that will be preceded at 4 p.m Friday by Loyola University-Chicago versus Utah Valley at the Soccer Complex.
