The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to switch our closets over to clothes that will compliment the random weather change.

As we prepare for the temperature to drop 40 degrees and for Starbucks to bring back pumpkin spice lattes, we have some time to fill our closets now with new trends before true fall fashion begins.

Exposed shoulders

This trend has been seen this summer in the form of dresses and crop tops, but it isn’t going anywhere for the fall. A great way to carry the summer months into the school year is by purchasing your off-the-shoulder blouses and dresses in fall colors like violet and army green.

Bomber Jackets

These short, straight-cut jackets are going to be a trend this fall because it’s perfect for any occasion. Bomber jackets work with everything from your favorite pair of Converse to your classic pumps. It’s trending in every color, style and texture. This is a piece that should definitely make its way into your closet.

The fabric velvet made an appearance a few years ago, but this fall it’s coming back in a big way. Velvet is appearing on everything from shoes, dresses, skirts, leggings, tops and even pants. Velvet will be fall’s new favorite fabric.

Choker necklaces have been a staple all summer long becoming everyone’s new favorite accessory, especially at festivals. But for the fall, chokers will not just be something small, they will add an extra something to a simple dress, shirt and even a cocktail dress.

The slip-on men and women’s shoe is perfect for a regular day of going to classes or even a dinner out with the girls. This season, you will see loafers with a metallic sheen, a chunky platform, a heel and even the trendy fall fabric, velvet.
