NIU will share safety tips to educate and prepare residents, faculty, staff and students of the measures they should take in severe weather situations for Severe Weather Preparedness week.

Throughout the course of the week, NIU will highlight safety tips with social media posts, campus-wide announcements and additional online content.

The effort is expected to be beneficial to new students especially, according to an NIU news release. Each year, NIU’s campus is usually hit with at least two severe thunderstorms which typically result in about 58 mph winds or higher, quarter size hail or larger and the possibility of tornados and flash floods, according to the news release.
