Women’s tennis starts spring break with match versus Drake

By Danielle Brown

Women’s tennis (5-4) will begin its spring break with a game against Drake University on Saturday, its first game since last week.

Head coach Tanya Gombera recently made adjustments to some of her lineups, leading to an impressive 6-1 win for the Huskies against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Gombera said she was happy with how the changes have worked and would like to see how they work against MAC teams.

The changes strengthened the team’s doubles lineup and has made them deeper as a doubles team. Gombera also said that changes may not be permanent depending on how they work out in the future.

The Huskies have won three of their last four games and still have a few weeks before they begin conference play. The team has 11 games remaining in the regular season and doesn’t play at the West Tennis Courts until April 1.

Drake is currently one of the top 100 teams in the country, but lost its last contest to the Huskies 4-3.

“They have great depth,” Gombera said. “I think [the team] is looking forward to it.”

Matches are scheduled to begin 9 a.m. Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
